LIVER is the biggest gland in human body. It is an exocrine gland and also an endocrine gland.

The liver is large, reddish-brown organ that lie on the right side of the abdomen weighing about 1.5 – 1.6 kg .The liver is an exocrine gland that secretes bile into the intestine is also an endocrine gland and a blood filter.

Some of the critical functions of liver include secretion of bile juices for decomposition of lipids & vitamins, preparation of proteins for blood plasma that enables blood clotting and also detoxification.

  • Carries out metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates and produces and excretes bile
  • It is responsible to excrete cholesterol, bilirubin, drugs and hormones and to activate enzymes
